Part of our former Council’s collection policy was a commitment to collect the work of local artists. Darryn Campbell is a young local artist who has exhibited in the Dogwood Crossing @ Miles gallery three times, with his next exhibition ‘armarna white star celestial” scheduled to open April 11. This painting was purchased from Darryn’s exhibition “amarna, white star, ReEvolution” in November 2006. Darryn works with meticulous detail, his main interests being ancient cultures, symbols, architecture and his lifelong obsession the titanic.

This painting was purchased from Karina’s exhibition “Sad, Splendid, Girls, Gold” at Dogwood Crossing @ Miles in May 2005. At the time of painting this work of her friend and work colleague Claudia, Karina was Centre Manager of Dogwood Crossing @ Miles. She is now the Director of the Warwick Art Gallery. Karina’s work is impeccably drawn and sumptuously coloured and she loves to use gold leaf in her work.

Another key area of the former council’s collection policy was Rural and Town Landscapes. This painting was purchased from Brisbane landscape artist Phil Bazzo’s exhibition “About Miles” in August 2008. Phil has a particular interest in recording his time and place, particularly the built environment. His highly textured and colourful paintings recorded many of the special places in and around Miles. This particular painting captured one unique aspect of the town of Miles – as the transport crossroad.
