Did you know...
Did you know that Bert Hinkler was born in Bundaberg Queensland? Bert successfully built and flew his glider at Mon Repos beach in 1912.

Times Atlas

The Times Atlas book of maps was used by Bert Hinkler to plot his journeys. He would remove the map of the area he had chosen to explore and would fly over the area with the map on his lap, a pencil, a compass and ruler. As he went, he would mark the map with navigational points. This is a wonderful piece to have in the collection as it gives visitors the opportunity to look upon a piece of history that Bert Hinkler himself used to guide on his pioneering flights.

The note was written by Bert Hinkler and handed to an aboriginal stockman on Alexandria Station on 25 February 1928. He wrote in the note that he had landed at a windmill and bore and did not realise that many people thought he was missing. He explained he would be delayed and would see them all soon and to expect his arrival.
