Did you know that the Museum has an extensive research facility consisting of both written and photographic works detailing the history of this area from the mid 1800s, with many oral histories.

The Victorian Gentleman's Smoking Cap

The smoking cap was popular from the late 1840s through the 1880s. This head gear for at home was brightly coloured, ornate and sometimes gaudy. Typically made form wool, silk or velvet and topped with a tassel.

Did you know...
Did you know that the Museum has an interesting collection of women's fashions and sewing dated from the early 1900s, including samplers, millinery, wedding dresses and accessories.

A Light Horse Uniform

A Light Horse uniform including hat and boots worn by a local man and donated by his wife. Also includes the boot moulds. The boot moulds allowed the boots to keep their shape when removed. The leather creased without the moulds. They are made of timber.

Did you know that the main building, called Rise & Shine Cottage, is a tribute to the 2nd discovery of gold in the area.

Dray's Hut

Example of the type of accommodation erected on selected land. Built at Mudlo in 1913, it was dismantled and moved to the Museum where it was reassembled in 2003.
