As part of the International Museum Day (18 May), M&GSQ coordinated Museums Alight! 2008, an annual week-long, state-wide celebration that provides the opportunity for museums and galleries in every region of Queensland to showcase their collections, exhibitions and events to the public while taking part in the global celebration of International Museum Day.
In 2008, Museums Alight! was held from Saturday 17 May to Sunday 25 May. The event celebrated Illuminating Communities and Change - a broad interpretation of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) 2008 theme of Museums as agents of social change and development.
