Applications Now Open for the 2009 Queensland-Smithsonian Fellowship Program

Opportunities available to people working in the Queensland museum and gallery sector through the Queensland-Smithsonian Fellowship Program 2009. Find out how you can apply for the opportunity to undertake research at the Smithsonian Institute, the world's largest museum complex with 19 museums and the National Zoo. There are facilities in Washington D.C. and New York City, and research centres in Arizona, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, Belize, Panama and Kenya.

The Program seeks to foster an interchange of knowledge and skills between Queensland organisations and the Smithsonian and supports the Queensland Government’s Q2 ambitions through the development of international alliances and networks.

Applications are now open and close at 5pm on Friday 14 August 2009.

Up to three Fellowships will be awarded in 2009. The duration of a Fellowship is for a period of 13 to 26 weeks with a maximum award of $30,000.

Applications are open to Queenslanders working in any area of mutual interest with the Smithsonian, including:

evolutionary, systemic, behavioural and environmental biology;
biodiversity, conservation and climate change;
earth, mineral and planetary sciences;
astrophysics; anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and indigenous and cross-cultural studies;
material and folk culture;
science and technology;
art, design and crafts;
materials conservation; and
museum management, practice, education and outreach.

The Program is open to Queenslanders working in government; research, educational or cultural institutions; or the private sector.
