Ornamentomology showcases the works by selected contemporary Queensland jewellers and metalsmiths responding to images of insects. The exhibition was developed by curatorial advisors Kirsten Fitzpatrick and Trevor Moore for the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Queensland.
Superb works by both established and emerging jewellers will be displayed adjacent to, and in the context of, a remarkable collection of images by D.E Walter, formerly of the Queensland University's Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis which inspired them.
The exhibition draws on both the very long tradition of insect-related imagery in jewellery and bodily adornment, as well as the more recent wave of images of the increasing cross-pollination between science and art. Aesthetically striking, accessible on multiple levels and appealing to a wide variety of audiences, Ornamentomology is sure to be memorable to all who see it.
Exhibition development was assisted through Touring Exhibition Partnership Plan funding from the Australia Council and project funding through Arts Queensland.
