| ABOUT THE GALLERY AND MUSEUM ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS | |
The GAMAA are presented by Museum & Gallery Services Queensland to honour the achievements of individuals and organisations in striving towards excellence. The awards are open to all Queensland museums, galleries, historical societies, keeping places and other related cultural organisations and the individuals who work in them.
The GAMAA:

 | Encourage continuous improvement and development of galleries, museums and related cultural organisations; | |
Enhance the profile of galleries, museums and related cultural organisations in local and wider communities; | |
Inspire and recognise best practice; and | |
recognise and encourage the contribution made by individuals to their organisations and to the gallery and museum sector. |

The Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards are presented annually.
The winners in each category receive a specially commissioned trophy by a Queensland designer. Travel costs are provided for winners and commendation recipients to attend the awards night. There are also prizes of goods and services or cash prizes for the winners in most categories.
Anyone can nominate an organisation or an individual for a GAMAA — the general public, workers within the gallery and museum sector, local government officers or other interested stakeholders. Organisations can self-nominate or can be nominated by others. Individuals must be nominated by another person.
There are three categories of Organisational awards:

The work of individual nominees may date back many years.
Organisation’s projects and operational activities must have been completed, or have reached an identifiable or significant milestone, within twelve months prior to the nomination closing date.
